- REJECTED: SALON DES NEO REFUSE´S -

The Cleveland Museum of Art is one of the world's great art museums, and the opportunity to exhibit work there is among the highest privileges accorded to a living artist. Throughout its history (with some notable gaps), CMA has invited the artists of Northeast Ohio to submit work for an annual exhibition, first in the form of the fabled "May Show," and now, the new "NEO Show." It is not surprising that 1,289 artists submitted work--but only 184 were accepted. Of those 184, a further cut was taken, and only 80 were selected to exhibit. 1,209 artists were rejected.

The rejected artists include some of the best artists working in Northeast Ohio today. The Digital Museum of Modern Art has determined to give those artists an opportunity to present their work to the entire world in a digital, online, highly networked exhibition of art. The "Salon des NEO Refusés" will make the "rejected" work available to the entire world--from Topeka to Timbuktu, Vilnius to Venezuela. And the work will be available online for years to come, creating a permanent archive of the best work being made in Northeast Ohio.

This archive will continue to grow. If you are an artist who did not hear about the "Salon des NEO Refuseés" until after the show opened, or if you were hesitant to submit, DMOMA will continue to accept entries right up to September 4, 2005--the closing date of "The NEO Show." Become a part of the Twenty-First Century! Take your work to the World!

DMOMA challenges CMA to also put the work of every artist represented in "The NEO Show" online. Let the world see the artists your jurors have selected.

It's a "Flat World" now.

If you submitted art to "The NEO Show' and were rejected, you are invited to submit your rejected work to "Rejected: Salon des NEO Refusés."
