John Burner, son of Jacob Burgner and Mary Conrad, was born in Cocalico Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He moved over primitive roads with his family to Stark County, Ohio in 1812, and was himself a farmer. John married Catherine Waltenberger in Stark County, on 21 APR 1835. After their marriage, they lived on the family homestead in New Portage, Ohio, now part of South Akron near the intersections of East Avenue, Waterloo Road and Norton Road. A part of the old farm was sold for $10,000. john Burgner died at his home near New Portage, O., after a lingering illness, and was buried in the Keyser Cemetary.
